paintings, private commissions and limited edition prints by Scottish artist John Stoa
from Dundee.
This website shows original paintings and fine art prints including
Scottish
Landscape paintings,

figurative paintings with
the artist's Scottish model, flower paintings, and John's other
love, snow scenes in Scotland, in his winter
landscapes.
An
early summer trip to Islay and Jura in the Inner Hebrides last year,
gave John many ideas for a range of Scottish
landscape watercolour paintings. The trip coincided with the
annual whisky festival on Islay, an occasion not to be missed.
A range of contemporary stretched box canvas, which do not need
framing, painted with large bold flowers and still life can be seen

picture of Broughty Ferry.

Highlands, with fantastic atmospheric feeling in Glencoe, and the
Isle of Skye, and sailing boats on romantic Loch Lomond for those

roses.

John's
Art Career
He
started working life in 1959 as a gardener in Dundee and his horticultural
career advanced at a fast pace with travel all over Britain, and
a head full of landscaping ideas, however, he always painted in
his spare time as a form of art therapy, then as he found success
with his love of painting, he became a full time artist in 1992.
The home garden is now the hobby.

Allotment
Gardening Art
John gets the 2008 TOP AWARD
John rented a plot in 2006 on Dundee City Council's City Road Allotment
Garden site to grow crops, and find a new source of ideas to paint
with old sheds, greenhouses, fences and walls and dilapidated garden
structures of great character perfect to capture on canvas.
Some of these paintings can be seen on this link to allotment
gardening.
SASKATOONS
John is also experimenting with growing a new fruit crop of Saskatoons
on his allotment garden and keeping a diary of events as the young
bushes mature.
Have
a look on the progress of John's superfood
Saskatoons , the new berry
to hit the fruit garden. The bushes
produced their first small crop of fruit in July 2007, after a record
breaking spell of wet and sunless weather, so early superfood tastings
left a lot to be desired. However although 2008 was even worse it
did get excellent weather up to the end of May so the resultant
second crop of 9 lbs was quite good.
The 2009 crop was fantastic with an average of 5 pounds fruit from
each bush, then in 2010 I had more fruit than I could use.
A long severe winter seemed to suit the bushes and our 2011 crop was immense, so the fruit is now being used to brew some fantastic wine.
2012 summer proved a difficult time (wettest on record) so cropping was not at its best.
The success was featured on television when Jim McColl from
the Beechgrove Garden filmed John, his allotment and his saskatoon
adventures, then the following year the saskatoons were featured on Landward TV.
Plants in pots were a sellout at Gardening Scotland at Ingliston in Edinburgh in June 2011 and 2012.
Young plants are now ready for mail order sales.
More information on my saskatoon page.
