Brugmansia,
once known as Datura, but more commonly known as Angel
Trumpets makes a gorgeous specimen plant with an
exotic overpowering scent at its best on warm evenings
and into the night. It enjoys the warmth of the Dundee
weather.
The
flowers are at their best at night, so benefit from
a position beside a house or garden light.
This
one is growing in a beer barrel where it gets plenty
room to grow to achieve a good size but has enough root
restriction to induce ample flowering.
Cuttings
taken in autumn root easy and overwinter in a dryish
and cool but frost free light position. They grow fast
in late winter and spring to make big specimens, so
need feeding and potted up frequently.
