Christmas roses, helleborus niger, the white lenten rose, takes centre stage in the winter garden as it is lit by the morning sun. They are new to John's garden and look like they will do very well, as the flower is very long lasting, almost pure white when it first emerges, changing slowly to a creamy white. They are happy in a partially shady spot and are amongst the first flowers to emerge hence their name the Christmas rose. |
