John's
Art Career began in 1992
He
started working life in 1959 as a gardener in Dundee and his horticultural
career advanced at a fast pace with travel all over Britain, and
a head full of landscaping ideas, however, he always painted in
his spare time as a form of art therapy, then as he found success
with his love of painting, he became a full time artist in 1992.
The home garden is now the hobby, although his specialism
is still in demand for gardening advice and landscape
design ideas.

This will also show his one man shows, private commissions, and
other gallery exhibitions.
Hand
Made Paper. John has created several figure studies on hand
made paper which can be seen on this link to HAND
MADE PAPER.
Allotment
Gardening
John has recently rented a plot on Dundee City Council's City Road
Allotment Garden site to grow crops, and find a new source of ideas
to paint with old sheds, greenhouses, fences and walls and dilapidated
garden structures of great character perfect to capture on canvas.
Some of these paintings can be seen on this link to allotment
gardening.
Scottish
garden pictures
The home and garden of artist John Stoa from Dundee can be seen
from these thumbnail links.
John's love of horticulture is evident in the development and design
of his large garden full of fruit and flowers, many of which get
captured on canvas.
Art class and art workshop students often paint around the studio
garden in summer, or whenever weather is suitable.
This garden is well planted, mature and has a wealth of subject
matter ready for painting.
Please feel free to have a wander around the garden by clicking

,and Flowering Bulbs
, and then a border for the Rose
Bushes
and from November to March, in the dark months the Winter
Garden is outstanding with the bright colours of the dogwoods,
kerria, and Leycesteria underplanted with drifts of snowdrops.
Autumn crops of raspberries and strawberries are now
a regular feature on John's allotment site. See his perpetual
strawberry Flamenco.
John has included a link to a page for
Garden Trees suited to the small garden, now that the
young trees have put on a bit of growth.
Have a look on the progress of John's Saskatoons
which he is hoping will produce a crop in Scottish soil
and climatic conditions, which vary tremendously from the prairies
of Canada where they grow in abundance. The bushes produced their
first small crop of fruit in July 2007, after a record breaking
spell of wet and sunless weather, so early tastings left a lot to
be desired, but another (normal) year may tell a different tale.
Interior Design and Corporate Art
Large contemporary paintings and stretched box canvas can be very
appropriate for Corporate and interior
design use.
Company promotions often use art for calendars, Christmas cards,
prints, and retirement gifts and to record special events,
eg. "Tall Ships Race", "Dundee's Octocentenary Celebrations"
and "A Moment in Time" painted for the Millenium.
John's winter snow scenes especially of Edinburgh Castle, are very
popular for charity christmas cards.
Contemporary stretched box canvas images can be in series
and themes and sometimes one image can be covered by several canvases,
ie. a triptych with three connecting paintings as in Rait
village box canvas triptych
There is more information on the Private
Commissions link.
