Symphony.
Soft fruit growing in Scotland, mainly with strawberries and raspberries
is concentrated
in a large area from Dundee to Perth and inland to Blairgowrie and Forfar,
and today the
season is being extended with protection under polythene tunnels.
New varieties of strawberry plants and other soft fruit are produced at
the Scottish
Crop Research Institute in Invergowrie Dundee.
My season starts with the early variety Mae, then main crops of Honeoye, then late summer Symphony and Florence then Flamenco takes the season to the end of October as it is a perpetual fruiter.
I
assist the early ripening with polythene tunnels.
Flamenco will continue to fruit into November, but low sunshine levels
means the fruit is beautiful to look at but lacks sweetness and is a bit
hard.
